MY THOUGHTS
Not gonna lie, the first thing that stood out to me was the art.
It's absolutely spectacular.
Every panel is packed with detail, and from the very beginning, you're transported into what feels like a Victorian-era city, dense with atmosphere and personality. It's the kind of visual storytelling that immediately pulls you in and makes you want to linger on every page.
And once you're in... the story wastes no time building intrigue.
We're introduced to characters who clearly operate in a world that isn't quite what it seems. There's an underlying tension in the dialogue, a sense that everyone knows more than they're willing to say.
That's especially true in the early interactions between characters who share a history, but not necessarily trust.
There's a moment early on where the tone shifts, and you get a glimpse of something more beneath the surface. Power isn't just implied... it's demonstrated. And when it is, it completely reframes how you see the characters involved.
It becomes clear very quickly that this is a world where appearances can be deceiving.
This is where Tistow really shines.
It builds a setting that feels grounded in something familiar... a city filled with industry, hierarchy, and shadow dealings... but layers it with something more.
MAGIC
Not in an overwhelming way, but in a way that adds tension to every interaction. It raises the stakes. It changes the rules.
And it makes you question who truly holds power.
There's also a strong sense that multiple forces are already in motion behind the scenes. Plans are being made. Pieces are being moved. And not everyone involved is aware of the full picture.
By the time we reach the end of this reading segment, the story leaves us with a moment that feels like the beginning of something much bigger.
A quiet reveal... but one that carries weight.
The kind that makes you stop for a second... and then immediately want to keep reading.
