In today’s webcomic review on Fables Pro, Ozzy’s Book Club explores a series that takes a simple idea and pushes it in a direction you don’t quite expect.

Episodes 1–18
These episodes introduce a world that feels familiar at first… until you realize just how far the concept goes.
MY THOUGHTS
Going into Extra!, I thought I had a pretty good idea of what the premise would be.
Extras in the background of a movie world? Sure. I figured it would be more of a metaphor.
It wasn’t.
It’s literal.
And that’s what makes it so interesting.
This world is structured like a full production company, where everyone has a role. Main characters, extras, directors, mascots... it’s all part of the system.
And the more you read, the more you realize that what looks like chaos… is far from it.
Events that seem random at first glance aren’t accidents at all. They’re planned. Controlled. Directed.
That shift in perspective hits quickly, and it pulls you deeper into the story.
It honestly gave me a whole new appreciation for concepts like those in the movie, The Truman Show, where the idea of reality being constructed blurs the line between what is real and what is orchestrated.
What I really appreciated is how committed the series is to its concept.
This isn’t just a world with a gimmick. It’s a world built around a structure that defines how everyone exists within it. People aren’t divided by status or background… but by their role within the production itself.
That’s a really fresh take.
Early on, we’re introduced to a small group of characters that help ground the story.
LXS793 (LXS), who immediately stands out through her actions.
EXV843 (Exv), a defiant Extra who refuses to simply accept their role.
And Roji… a mascot who brings a completely different kind of energy into the mix.
Roji, in particular, adds a layer of humor that balances out the heavier implications of the world. The expressions, the observations, the little quirks... it all works without taking away from the tension of the situation.
And while the story carries some familiar elements in how certain roles and systems are introduced, it still manages to feel unique because of how everything is framed within this “production” reality.
The pacing in these early episodes is strong.
It sets the tone, introduces the stakes, and gives just enough information to keep you asking questions without overwhelming you.
And that’s what kept me reading.
Because once you realize how this world operates… you can’t help but want to know what happens next.

- A balance of tension and humor that keeps things engaging
Extra! is the kind of series that takes a simple concept… and turns it into something much bigger.
