MY THOUGHTS
Death of a Crescent Moon quickly introduces us to a world where demons are real, and those tasked with fighting them live hidden among us.
What I appreciate about this series is that it doesn't overwhelm the reader with long explanations. Instead, the magic system and hierarchy of demons are revealed gradually, allowing us to learn about the world alongside the main character.
And that's where the story really finds its footing.
We follow Johan, a teenager whose life is suddenly turned upside down. After losing his parents, he's confronted with a truth that completely reshapes everything he thought he knew about his family... and about the world itself.
It's a lot to take it. Not just for a teenager, but for anyone who would go through something like this.
And realistically... his reaction reflects that.
He doesn't immediately accept what he's being told, which makes his journey feel grounded. There's hesitation. There's disbelief. There's a natural resistance to something that feels impossible.
That slow progression works well, especially as the story begins to show him taking small steps forward, learning piece by piece rather than being thrown fully into the deep end.
There's a particular moment where that disbelief is challenged in a very direct way, and it becomes clear that this is not a world Johan can simply ignore.
What also stands out is the way the series builds its atmosphere. There's a sense that this hidden world has its own rules, its own danger, and its own structure that we're only just beginning to understand.
One thing readers may notice is that the panel flow and reading direction can feel a bit unconventional at times. It may take a moment to find your rhythm as you go through the pages, but once you settle into it, the story begins to come together more clearly.
Overall, this chapter does a good job of expanding the world while keeping the focus on Johan's perspective and his gradual adjustment to a reality he never asked to be part of.
