I remember years ago, when I joined an art class in college. And before I say anything, this is not to sound petty, but hopefully it might help someone.
I remember how excited I was for my drawing class. It was the one thing I thought I had talent for. But my art teacher hated my work so much, I could hear his sighs every time I entered the classroom, haha.
One day he told me, “You should quit. You don’t have a future in drawing.” Yeah, it didn't feel good.
Maybe it wasn’t the best way to say it, but he was right. I sucked at the time. And maybe I still draw like a five-year-old, but I focused on storytelling. I wish my story was as simple and fast as this comic, but it took many years to find my own style.
I guess where I’m going with this is: as long as you enjoy what you do, keep going. Find ways to improve. Listen to criticism objectively. Take what helps, leave what doesn’t, and keep learning every day.
That’s how my hobby became my fun job. 💛
