Those eye bags... has Arthur not slept for a week?
I know it's meant to be dramatic lighting, but I've seen the same lighting used to indicate that a character's a vampire (in a vampire focused webcomic).

I just checked the webcomic I was thinking of, and I was wrong. They only gave the vampires thicker lines at the bottom of their eyes as a method to show gaunt features. Though, the shading on this page is something I interpret as indicating the same gaunt appearance on Arthur, to me.
